Head aches and TMJ
HEADACHES AND TMJ (TMD)
Although headaches are often caused by many factors, one relatively common contributing problem is a dislocation of the jaw joint(s) This is referred to often as TMJ or in general as TMD (temporal mandibular dysfunction). An amazing number of cases of frequent headaches/ neck aches can be successfully treated using simple splints. In simple terms a splint is a removable custom plastic appliance that allows the jaw joint, muscles, nerves, etc. to relax and return naturally to a healthy relaxed position.

There are many degrees of sophistication relative to splint therapy but a simple screening can be done with a history, an x-ray of the joints, some simple measurements, and finally an initial splint that can be fabricated in a matter of minutes in the office. This allows us to decide if in fact the “bite” is a factor in the cause of your headaches. An initial result can be analyzed within days.
